What They’re Saying about Cap and Tax

Cap and Trade Regarding Wealth Redistribution ,,,,,,,,

“By offering concrete emission targets last week, the United States and China have resuscitated global climate talks that were headed toward an impasse. But the details that have yet to be resolved — including the money that industrialized countries would offer poorer ones as part of an agreement — suggest a political deal remains a heavy lift for the 192 countries set to convene in Copenhagen in little more than a week…

“Keya Chatterjee, the U.S. director for the World Wildlife Fund climate change program, likened the developments to ‘a phoenix . . . rising from the ashes.’ She added that, under a best-case scenario, ‘It’s not a deal that’s going to solve the problem of climate change a hundred percent. . . . But it is a deal that’s going to create a foundation and an international architecture for resolving this issue over time.’

“A senior Obama administration official offered a more cautious assessment: ‘There’s a very real chance of getting this done, but hurdles remain.’”

-washingtonpost.com

A couple of points here, the term ‘phoenix’ used here is very apropos being it refers to a mythical creature and that is exactly what ‘man-made’ global warming is –A MYTH. And in full context; ‘a phoenix rising from the ashes.’, proponents of this myth are really admitting the firestorm unleashed due to the hacked emails revealing their deception.

I and others have have commented on this global 'wealth redistribution' before and I have posted this video previously as well, but as Copenhagen draws near it bears repeating.

Lord Christopher Monckton has read the actual treaty and explains the hidden agenda behind the myth.

For full speech go here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stij8sUybx0

Regarding the hacked emails ,,,,,,,,

“The reason why even the Guardian’s George Monbiot has expressed total shock and dismay at the picture revealed by the documents is that their authors are not just any old bunch of academics. Their importance cannot be overestimated, What we are looking at here is the small group of scientists who have for years been more influential in driving the worldwide alarm over global warming than any others, not least through the role they play at the heart of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

“Professor Philip Jones, the CRU’s director, is in charge of the two key sets of data used by the IPCC to draw up its reports. Through its link to the Hadley Centre, part of the UK Met Office, which selects most of the IPCC’s key scientific contributors, his global temperature record is the most important of the four sets of temperature data on which the IPCC and governments rely – not least for their predictions that the world will warm to catastrophic levels unless trillions of dollars are spent to avert it…

“Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get away with a whitewash of what has become the greatest scientific scandal of our age.”

- telegraph.co.uk

******
“They even include threats of violence. One American academic wrote to Prof Jones: ‘Next time I see Pat Michaels [a climate sceptic] at a scientific meeting, I’ll be tempted to beat the crap out of him. Very tempted.’

“Dr Michaels, tracked down by this newspaper to the Cato Institute in Washington DC where he is a senior fellow in environmental studies, said last night: ‘There were a lot of people who thought I was exaggerating when I kept insisting terrible things are going on here.

“‘This is business as usual for them. The world might be surprised but I am not. These guys have an attitude.’”

- telegraph.co.uk
Now those quotes are from media in the United Kingdom which is where the emails originated from in the first place. Climategate is not just a concern of American’s nor are ‘skeptic’s’ or as I refer to as realist’s confined between our shore’s.

Regarding Strange Bedfellows ,,,,,,

“No matter what our climate czar may insist, climate science and Copenhagen are now under a giant cloud. In fact, as Hume implies, the situation is far more serious than that, because what has been revealed is what strange bedfellows science and politics are in this era. The relationship between politicians and scientists today is not entirely unlike the relationship between scientists and the clergy during the days of Galileo. And the politicians of today know about as much about the science as the bishops of Galileo’s time did, although our politicians are perfectly willing to exploit the science of which they are ignorant and the scientists too often perfectly willing to be complicit in their own exploitation “But in an era when we no longer think the world is flat, it’s time to have open, transparent science. It’s an absolute necessity if we are to have any confidence at all in the results – and in how we are spending the gigantic sums our leaders seem to demand of us.

“Toward that end, I have a simple recommendation. Postpone the UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to begin in Copenhagen on December 7. Give it another year or two for people to examine the science in the open. Otherwise, this will be seen as one of history’s great boondoggles.”

- pajamasmedia.com

This goes to a point I have been pondering myself about how Galileo was treated by The Holy Sea at that time and how realist's and real scientist's are treated now by the new progressive religion of 'man-made' global warming.

Galileo was given an apology and a retraction of the Holy Seas' stance from the Vatican posthumously.

Galileo waited 400 years for that, just how long will we have to wait ?

Misc.,, Sobering,Serious & Fun

SOBERING,,,,,,

From The Heritage Foundation

There is much talk these days of how conservatives need “new ideas” in these troubled economic times. And as we look at our nation’s troubled landscape, there is much work that needs to be done if we are going to return economic prosperity to the country. But as we sit down to celebrate Thanksgiving with our friends and family, recalling the true story of the Pilgrims should remind us all that the core principles that have made this nation great are unchanging, and that we risk ruin if we abandon them.

Most children learn that the Pilgrims’ salvation at Plymouth Colony stemmed from the generosity of local Indians. And while there is no doubt that the American natives did help the immigrants through some early tough times, it was not until the Pilgrims rediscovered the importance of private property that the colony began to thrive and was able to give thanks for their own blessings. When the Pilgrims first arrived, they attempted a form of, in Gov. William Bradford’s words, “community” or “commonwealth.” In other words, they attempted to “spread the wealth around” by destroying private property and replacing it with a communally owned property system.

The result was disastrous. According to Bradford, this system bred “confusion and discontent” and “retarded much employment that would have been to [the settlers'] benefit and comfort.” Unable to produce their own food, some settlers “became servants to the Indians,” cutting wood and fetching water in exchange for “a capful of corn.” It was not until the colony changed course and allowed the private ownership of farmland that prosperity returned. Bradford reported, “This had very good success for it made all hands very industrious. … [M]uch more corn was planted than otherwise would have been. … Women went willingly into the field, and took their little ones with them to set corn.”

A profoundly religious man, Bradford saw the hand of God in the Pilgrims’ economic recovery. Their success, he observed, “may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients and applauded by some of later times … that the taking away of property … would make [men] happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God.” Bradford surmised, “God in his wisdom saw another course fitter for them.”

Amen to that.

(UPDATE) Brighter Day ?

In his giving his Thanksgiving wishes Obama said he will meet next week with business owners, labor leaders and nonprofit officials to talk about additional efforts to spur job creation. (Gee,I am glad he is now getting around to it?)
"It is my fervent hope — and my heartfelt expectation — that next Thanksgiving we will be able to celebrate the fact that many of those who have lost their jobs are back at work and that as a nation we will have come through these difficult storms stronger and wiser and grateful to have reached a brighter day,"

How can anyone square that statement when faced with the facts about cap and trade legislation and it's effects that Obama supports?

Cap and Trade Facts

- Cap and Trade is a massive, unprecedented tax on energy that will cost families on average another $3,000 per year

That fact does not mention the taxes that will be imposed on businesses as well which actually EMPLOY people.

- It will cause both electricity and gasoline prices to skyrocket.

Again, this fact includes businesses. When their fixed costs rise dramatically two things happen immediately; (1) Layoffs and (2) Increase in pricing on their goods (products) and services.

- It will not make a substantive impact on the environment.

That fact goes to the obvious point that this is NOT about climate as humans cannot nor ever will be able to effect it one way or the other. So one would ask why sign a treaty or pass legislation? CONTROL,not of the climate, but rather control of people.

With even more massive numbers of unemployed, on welfare or otherwise dependant on the State, indebted or in prison due to taxes owed to the IRS, who is in control? The GOVERNMENT.

- Even after accounting for new 'green jobs', net job losses will approach 1.9 million in 2012 and 2.5 million by 2035.

Now this fact does not include the numbers of unemployed right now,it addresses the direct effect of the pending legislation. We are looking at massive numbers of unemployed not seen since the Great Depression. Along with that comes more home foreclosures and bankruptcies. Those jobs will not return, the companies that employed those people are now either closed for good or overseas.

So much for Obamas "brighter day".

We have all either heard of or read the hacked emails and documents of which there are 1,000 and 3,000 respectively, PROVING this whole scheme a fraud and all about manipulation of people.

A cap-and-trade system will drive up gas prices, food prices, transportation costs, and the prices of manufactured goods. All of these measures will, at best, result in a change in the Earth’s temperature too small to ever notice.

With unemployment at 10.2 percent, now is not the time to experiment with new energy taxes. Educate your friends. Educate your family. Educate America about the very real human costs of an energy tax.

Thanksgiving, a Cherished Ritual

I wish you and yours a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.

My prayers on this American Holiday are for America itself, those who reside within her borders and most importantly those who defend her, our United States Armed Forces to whom no amount of thanks would ever be sufficient though we should never tire of doing so.

Please be sure to see the video below the fold of President Ronald Reagan's 1985 Thanksgiving address to the Nation.

Thanksgiving, a Cherished Ritual

Lord, as we pause in our busy lives to gather around the Thanksgiving table, sharing the precious bond among family and friends, let us remember that this abundant harvest, this feast of delicious and nourishing dishes is the fulfillment of our faith that You will always provide for us.

As we go through this cherished ritual, the Thanksgiving holiday ceremony, let us feel the comfort of Your care for us in every bite we eat and enjoy.

In this tradition, begun by courageous travelers long ago to thank You for their lives and safety, we thank You for the joy and happiness you give us, to lift us up,and also for the sometimes difficult lessons and challenges You give us to make us stronger, better, and more aware of our need for You.

Thank You for the support and courage You give us to get through troubled times.

Thank You for answered prayers and also for the times You said "no," to keep us from stumbling off Your path for us.

We know that in all things, You are working for our good.

Now, as we draw together in unity to savor this wonderful dinner, we are thankful for those who prepared it, for those who join us to enjoy it, and most of all, we thank You, Lord, for the many different kinds of blessings You continually grant us.

We pray that You'll bless this food, and bless all of us as we gather together.

In Jesus' name we pray; Amen.

Ahhhhh the memories of when we had a leader who said what he meant and meant what he said, knew his place under God and in doing so the country embraced Conservatism and Americas founding principles.

May God Bless all and Happy Thanksgiving

Sincerely, Christopher

POLL: New low in support for reform plan

This is not surprising, now only if congress would LISTEN,,,,,

The latest Rasmussen Reports national survey finds that 56% of American voters now oppose and just 38% favor the health reform plan being pushed by Congressional Democrats.

This new low in public support comes on the heels of the Senate’s party line vote Saturday to proceed with debate of a public plan laden reform bill. Half the survey was conducted before the Senate voted late Saturday to begin debate on its version of the legislation. Support for the plan was slightly lower in the half of the survey conducted after the Senate vote.

These poll numbers are the lowest level of support measured for the plan in nearly two dozen tracking polls conducted since June.

Prior to this, support for the plan had never fallen below 41%. Last week, support for the plan was at 47%. Two weeks ago, the effort was supported by 45% of voters.

Intensity remains stronger among those who oppose the push to change the nation’s health care system: 21% Strongly Favor the plan while 43% are Strongly Opposed.

WHY NATIONALIZED HEALTH IS DANGEROUS

From appropriately named Reason TV:

Would ObamaCare Kill Medical Innovation?

As health care reform inches closer to reality, a massively important question becomes even more pressing: Will ObamaCare kill the sorts of medical innovation that makes the United States the leader in bringing new treatments, technology, and procedures to market?

MINDSET OF THE 4TH ESTATE

THIS IS VERY TELLING,,,
I am not sure where to begin describing this? The title of the following article by Brian Williams is bizarre to be sure, but Mr. Williams uses the term ‘inane’ in his piece and so I will apply that same term to him, for he did not put his brain in gear before putting his mouth in motion (as usual) on this.

Mind you, Brian Williams is the lead anchor on the nationally televised NBC Nightly News and Jon Stewart has a show on Comedy Central.

I happened upon this by accident and it got my blood boiling, so the following piece by Brian Williams submitted to Newsweek.com is segmented so I could analyze it in my own humble way.

As much as I would like nothing better than to slap some frickin sense into this man, this is my perspective on him and that includes all the drive-by-media.

'New Thought Leaders,Jon Stewart'

By Brian Williams
Submitted to Newsweek.com

In just the span of a short few years, Jon Stewart has gone from optional to indispensable. Case in point: when Jon went all Glenn Beck on Jim Cramer a few months back. A few of us blanched. Getting pissed, brimming with bile—that was so . . . MSM of him.,,,,,,,,,

Indispensable? Stewart is a comedian of which are a dime-a-dozen. But by saying that and then comparing him to Glenn Beck, would that not make Beck just as indispensable as well? Of course. I am sure Glenn appreciates that admission on Williams part. But that said there is obviously a big difference being Mr. Beck is SERIOUS albeit making it fun and checks his facts. Mr. Stewart does comedy shtick based on liberal talking points.

Another point on this, since NBC or the other alphabet-soup networks NEVER call this administration or liberals to the carpet on ANYTHING, Williams is in effect saying Glenn Beck IS IN FACT MAIN STREAM MEDIA. Again, I am sure Mr. Beck appreciates that as well.

,, And yet, in the niche-y, hip, and in-the-know world of late-night, media-skewering comedy, it had the impact of Cronkite turning against Vietnam.,,,,,,

Now talk about INANE! Stewart going after Cramer had that impact? I think not! How many military lives were lost in war over the Stewart vs. Cramer feud? ZERO, How many military lives lost for Cronkite’s actions during the Vietnam War? THOUSANDS!

Being Williams and Cramer serve the same master (GE) and along with Stewart are liberals, it may have seemed treasonous of Stewart to Williams but certainly not on the level of Cronkite, as no one died due to Stewart’s critique of Cramer.

,, The Web clips of the choreographed filleting of Jim Cramer helped foment public outrage against the excesses of the financial industry in the midst of a housing crisis. That was an important moment.,,,,,,

I agree it was and still is important, but as a NEWS ANCHOR why did Williams not cover it fully?

Maybe that ‘outrage’ may have lead what viewers he has left to the true culprits, CONGRESS, had he done his job!

Also, he puts Stewart on a pedestal for ‘fomenting outrage’, important he says? Is it the job of news anchors to do this or simply report the news and let the chips fall where they will? Obviously report. Similar question about comedy, ‘foment outrage’ or supply entertainment? Entertainment.

Both shows are neither news nor entertainment but rather televised ‘community organizers’. This is more or less admitted by Williams in his use of terms again; “choreographed filleting”. Furthermore, is this not what the drive-by-media and the White House accuses Fox News of doing?

Thinking what I am? Hypocritical or in total denial, pick both.

,,, But even more important is the system of checks and balances Jon has created.,,,,,

Now that may be honest when speaking of the true purpose of a free press but nonetheless inane when you read what context he is using “checks and balances" let alone a comedian:

,,On occasion, when we’ve been on the cusp of doing something completely inane on NBC Nightly News, I will gently suggest to my colleagues that we simply courier the tape over to Jon’s office, to spare the Daily Show interns the time and trouble of logging our broadcast that night. That usually gets us to rethink the inane segment we were planning on airing.,,,,

Yes, he first implies that NBC Nightly News does not air anything “completely inane” which is laughable on its face. Williams then implies he himself calls out the inane segment as though not to be aired, which if true there would be no NBC Nightly News as everything aired on their news is inane and according to Williams implication would not be aired.

So by looking at Williams own self-implications, NBC Nightly News uses Comedy Central by proxy as their Ombudsman, i.e; checks and balances ? Not only a bad business model but disingenuous and insane.

,, The old arc of a news story went like this: News happens. Media cover news. Audience reacts, then turns in for the night.,,,,,

That statement is very true. But that era ended abruptly with Cronkite’s treasonous personal opinion presented as news. If Williams longs for that era to return then he would REJECT Cronkite and do as Fox News actively does on a daily basis, News happens. Media cover news. Audience reacts, and then turns in for the night!

But no, he continues,,,,,,,,

,,, For the past several years, however, there’s been another step added to the end of the process: being held to account for our faults by a comedy show with a sharp eye and a sharp tongue.,,,,,

Well I will argue that at least for Conservatives that no ‘step’ has been added to that process that we seek or desire as we can think and discern for ourselves without assistance, least of which a liberal ‘comedy’ show.

Finally Williams poses this exit question:

,,, How did we live without it?

Much better I say. A well informed populous minus state-driven propaganda enjoys it’s God-given and Constitutional liberties, is much more unified and stronger and the Nation remains of the people, by the people and for the people.

Thank God for Fox, Rush, Levin, Ingram, Savage, Hannity, Medved, Hewitt, Coulter, Galleger, Huckabee, Prager and so many more in publication including Conservative bloggers !

OPEN THREAD - DEFINE 'SOCIAL LEPERS'

Some Hint's,,,

Leprosy;
The most widely held belief is that the disease is transmitted by contact between infected persons and healthy persons. In general, closeness of contact is related to the dose of infection, which in turn is related to the occurrence of disease. Of the various situations that promote close contact, contact within the household is the only one that is easily identified, although the actual incidence among contacts and the relative risk for them appear to vary considerably in different studies. In incidence studies, infection rates for contacts of lepromatous leprosy have varied from 6.2 per 1000 per year to 55.8 per 1000 per year.

Also note the quote from British PM Thatcher @ top left

My fellow Conservative blogger Chris -'Bonsai from the Right', had a blog entry about TV evangelists that drew the attention of a particular liberal commentor who called atheists 'social lepers'. To all reading this,if you have not already, you should check it out: http://bonsaifromtheright.blogspot.com/2009/11/where-is-our-country-going.html for interest.

But I regress, I do not wish this open thread to be about religion, but rather a discussion on your definition of 'social leper, social leper's or social leprosy.

Background; My response (in short) to the liberal comment on Chris' blog was that I equated liberals to 'social lepers' as opposed to atheist's giving (3) examples, one being the 'war on poverty' which actually has and is putting more people in poverty. I also stated that the list of examples goes on and on.

So have at it! How many examples can you list of liberals and their policies personifying social leprosy on being a plague upon American society ?

Health Care-Just The Fact's

Well now that Dingy Harry and his statist cohorts in the Senate have formulated their version of a socialistic take-over of Americans very health I feel this compilation of compelling argument(s) requires more visibility and understanding of the situation at hand.

All the following is provided by www.publicplanfacts.org with sources and encourage all to visit their site.

Copy and e-mail it to all you know. Print it so you can, as Glenn Beck would say, “to argue with idiots”.

Americans agree that we should increase access to affordable quality health care.

But creating a massive, new government-run public health care plan is a poison pill.

Proponents of the “public plan” continue to assure Americans that expanding the government’s role in providing health insurance will lower costs, increase competition and improve quality.

Really?

Here is the reality:

- ON COMPETITION,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “Advocates of a public option believe a government insurance plan is needed to bring more robust price competition to the market…”(1)

• “One of the best ways to introduce this much-needed competition is for the federal government to offer a public health insurance plan that can compete with private insurers…” (2)

Reality:
• “A public program won’t compete in a way that any normal business would recognize.” (3)

• “The choice is between giving consumers a real market of competing insurers and steering them steadily toward a single-payer.” (4)

• “There is simply no example, worldwide, of a robust private health insurance market co-existing with a government plan that’s open to all.” (5)

• “But government never competes in a private market; it takes the market over.” (6)

• “The problem with this arrangement is that Medicare is so powerful that it can get away with paying only 80 to 85 percent of actual costs, forcing doctors and hospitals to overcharge private insurers to make up the difference.” (7)

- ON LEVEL PLAYING FIELD,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “We can create a level playing field.” (8)

Reality:
• Doug Elmendorf, Director of the Congressional Budget Office – “More generally in health care reform, when people talk about public plans competing with private plans, I think designing a system in which a public plan could compete on a level playing field is extremely difficult.” (9)

• The Washington Post Editorial Page – “It is difficult to imagine a truly level playing field that would simultaneously produce benefits from a government run system.” (10)

• “Yet creating a marketplace where private insurance plans could compete fairly with Medicare for the under-65 population would be difficult and complex...” (11)

- ON ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “Government-run plans have lower administrative expenses than private plans…” (12)

• “Public plans are attractive because…they have lower administrative costs…” {13)

Reality:
• “The comparison between public and private plans is a false comparison.” (14)

• “The AMA believes…that administrative costs are actually lower than generally reported in the private sector and higher than generally reported in the
public sector.” (15)

• “Medicare’s supposed administrative and medical cost advantages are not real.”(16)

• “This argument ignores the problem that one of the main reasons Medicare’s administrative costs are low as a percentage of its overall spending is that it fails to control both wasteful spending – as much as one-third of all Medicare spending – and fraud.” (17)

• “Single-payer and ‘public plan’ option advocates erroneously cite a much higher figure of up to 13 percent of premium for the private insurance market. What advocates are doing is wrongly comparing what is in fact only one part of Medicare “administration” costs to the whole of private insurance “administration” costs.” (18)

• “Medicare’s ‘overhead’ costs for claims administration, as a percentage of the program’s ‘premium income,’ are really about the same as claims administration costs in the private large group health plan market.”

- ON PRICE CONTROLS / NEGOTIATING,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “Public plans are attractive because…they can be large-scale purchasers with a strong negotiating position with providers.” (19)

Reality:
• “Price controls create large incentives to increase rather than decrease use of unnecessary health care.” (20)

• Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) – “This plan will almost certainly use a price-control system similar to the one in place for Medicare, allowing it to charge artificially low premiums by paying fees well below private rates. These low premiums will serve as a magnet for enrollment and will devastate the private companies trying to compete in the health-insurance market.” (21)

• “The creation of a ‘Medicare-like’ plan, in particular, would entail creation of a Medicare-like financing system – a shell game in which prices are held artificially below market rates while costs are shifted to private carriers and growing liabilities are shifted to the next generation of taxpayers.” (22)

- ON QUALITY AND ACCESS TO PROVIDERS,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “Public Plan Choice will create incentives for effective performance just as today’s Medicare program promotes quality alongside cost containment.” (23)

• “…over the last generation, public insurance has pioneered new payment and quality-improvement methods…” (24)

• “Public plans are attractive because they can offer better access to necessary care for diverse
populations…” (25)

• “The central argument for public plan choice is that such a plan…offers Americans quality, affordable health care through a broad choice of providers in all parts of the country.” (26)

• “Nor do access and participation measures suggest that Medicare is increasingly shortchanging providers: Most data show relatively stable access and participation, and none shows the dire picture sometimes painted.” (27)

Reality:
• “And private insurance plans are far ahead of Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs on reforms such as pay-for-performance medicine, chronic disease management and disease prevention.” (28)

• “A Texas Medical Association survey of that state’s doctors found that while 58 percent of Texas doctors accepted new Medicare patients, only 38 percent of primary care doctors did so.” (29)

• “One in five Medicare patients ends up back in the hospital within a month of discharge.” (30)

• “…Med PAC warns that Medicare’s well-known design deficiencies and its financial problems will certainly inhibit its delivery of high-quality care.” (31)

• “Some doctors…are no longer accepting Medicare…The doctors’ reasons: reimbursement rates are too low and paperwork too much of a hassle.” (32)

• “… a new government plan is merely a diversion from the core issue that under existing Medicare administrative payment systems – precisely the payment systems that champions of the new government-run plan routinely applaud – inefficiency is richly rewarded and innovation is
soundly punished.” (33)

- ON COST CONTAINMENT,,,,,,

Liberal-Statist Dream World:
• “Furthermore, experience with Medicare suggests that public insurance is better equipped to control spending over time…” (34)

• “The great virtue of public plan choice as a means of cost control is that it proposes relatively minimal disruption to existing arrangements compared with other comprehensive reform proposals.” (35)

Reality:
• “Medicare keeps costs under control in part because of its 800-pound-gorilla capacity to dictate prices – in effect, to force the private sector to subsidize it.”(36)

• “…there is no evidence that Medicare has been successful at controlling spending growth.” (37)

• “Moreover, Medicare, despite its assured market and huge buying power, is headed for insolvency; thus, it is a poor model for a new program that would be dependent on voluntary enrollment in a competitive marketplace.” (38)

• “…Hacker’s contention that ‘Medicare has increasingly out-performed private plans in restraining the rate of increase of health spending while maintaining broad access’ that is the real problem with his argument for a public plan option.” (39)

• “Medicare will run out of money to pay claims in 2017 under current projections.” (40)

• “Medicare is accumulating trillions in unfunded liabilities, promises benefits without dedicated financing, while annually shifting billions of dollars in health costs to individuals and families in private health insurance.” (41)

Little Ball of Liberal Goo

Just when we were pondering on actually where 'stimulus' money went after bogus claims from the White House, U.S. News and World Report has found some and it has some of liberals favorite things; porkulus, taxes, studies on raising taxes and health care.

Not to mention all of it is unnecessary, unwanted and wasteful,,,,,,,,,,,,

FREE MARKET GROUPS SEE SODA-TAX CONSPIRACY

By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

There's more proof that the administration is high on soda taxes as a way to curb obesity and fund health care reform. Two pro-free-market groups have discovered a $1 million stimulus grant to the University of Illinois to fund a study of the relationship between fat taxes and food consumption, diet quality, and obesity. Of concern is that the study results might be preordained.

According to the university's press release,
"Previous economic studies suggest that food prices do change consumption. However, the researchers want to determine if, for example, consumers will seek out another high-sugar drink such as Kool-Aid if, say, soda is too expensive. If they do, then a tax on soda may reduce soda consumption but will not necessarily reduce weight, improve diet quality, or reduce overall sugar intake."

The makers of the target products—sodas, juices, and sports drinks—have been warning that the administration wants to raise the tax on their products. They also say that higher soda taxes in some states have not led to a drop in obesity, calling into question the societal benefit of such taxes.

The Illinois Policy Institute concluded that,
"taxpayers are in essence funding a study that will likely call for even higher taxes on the products we consume every day. This isn't change we can believe in."

And the Club for Growth's Andy Roth tells Whispers,
"The stimulus-financed study about fat taxes proves that the fat cats in Washington show no restraint when it comes to spending our hard-earned tax dollars. Is there any project that would fail to meet Congress's unbelievably low standards? I doubt it."

They (liberals) Can't Count

Everyone at least on the right is discussing if not outright fuming at the revelations of the fictitious districts and 'jobs created' posted by the B. Hussein administration.

Greta VanSustren interviewing Steve Moore on Fox News touched on a few of my main concerns beyond what is to me the blatant propaganda posted @ recovery.org which as of yet are not being addressed,,,,,,

Where did the money actually go? It is one thing to report on obvious lies spewed out by this administration in order to bolster it's agenda but there needs to be an Independent Counsel Investigation put in place to account for every dime, call it 'Stimulus gate'. This is our money being discussed here and I for one demand an accounting!

It is also being said that if this administration cannot handle 'stimulus' how can they be trusted with health care which is a completely valid point. But being the 'stimulus' is already law, the comparison to health care assumes the same, when passed. My concern goes directly to the math and 'they can't count'. Every time this administration and congress address health care legislation the numbers change which can be expected when shaping bills, but if you want a good product you must be deliberate and take your time. This math needs real accountant's attention BEFORE becoming law.

With the rush to sign 'stimulus' into law, then to spend it with no apparatus in place to track it this was bound to happen. Right now we are lucky that Obamacare was not passed in July but is still being rushed.

There is way too much accounting to figure in 1/6Th of our economy to rush this legislation and as proved by the 'stimulus' revelations,,,THEY CAN'T COUNT!

Exit question; Why no discussion of the obvious lies on 'job creation' from the left media mmmmmmmmmm ?

Legislated Indoctrination

Yesterday E.J. Dionne Jr. had an op-ed in the Washington Post titled ‘ROTC for civilian service’ in which he goes on extolling civil service “inspired” by such progressive programs as The New Deal, New Frontier and the Great Society.

True students of history know that the ‘New Deal’ from Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt (D) came about during and subsequent to the Great Depression. It is also true that there was at least one recession during the duration of the Great Depression. Needless to say and an understatement that jobs were scarce in the private sector. So Americans jumping onto the Federal payroll was not so much “inspiration to civil service” but rather an avenue to receive pay in order to feed their families.

Some of the ‘New Deal’ legislation was even declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, and some programs did not accomplish their aims, but many reforms were continued by later administrations and permanently changed the role of government.

‘The New Frontier’ by Pres. John F. Kennedy (D) – “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” speech sounds good and inspirational but when thought about it simply means yet again expanding government. His agenda was less aggressive but increasing the government payroll was the goal and again the country was in a recession, see a pattern yet?

Now we get to Pres. Lyndon Johnson (D) and his “Great Society” and the numerous federal bureaucracies it created and plague us to this very day. This was Johnson's continuation of Kennedy's goals but Johnson reached even further. In all, the Great Society was,it has been said, the greatest burst of legislative activity since the ‘New Deal’. But support for the Johnson administration policies began to weaken around 1966. Some of Johnson's programs did not live up to expectations; many programs went under funded, think Medicaid and Medicare.

These three progressive programs had the liberal’s desired goal of expanding the Federal Government by vast amounts beyond anything that is proscribed in our Constitution. And in effect making people dependant on the government for sustenance be it a job or hand-out which redefines what liberty means altogether.

That brings us to 2009 with B. Hussein in the White House with a democrat-controlled Congress and the point of Dionne’s piece as he describes here:

It's time for a civilian ROTC.

That's the idea of a bipartisan group of senators and House members, who are proposing to create a Roosevelt Scholars program, named after Teddy Roosevelt. Reps. David Price (D-N.C.) and Mike Castle (R-Del.) have introduced a bill in the House, and a similar measure is expected in the Senate this week from Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio).

Although there is sentiment to include undergraduates in the program, the House bill is aimed at graduate students because the federal government has a special demand for highly qualified employees who are otherwise attracted (and heavily recruited) by the private sector. In exchange for generous scholarships in fields such as engineering, information technology, foreign languages and public health, the scholars would commit to three to five years of service in an agency of the federal government.

Did you catch the RINO’s, Mike Castle (R-Del.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio)?

Here is the official wording of the legislation from opencongress.org:

H.R.3510 - Roosevelt Scholars Act of 2009

All Bill Titles
• Short: Roosevelt Scholars Act of 2009 as introduced.

• Official: To establish a scholarship program to encourage outstanding graduate students in mission-critical fields to pursue a career in the Federal Government. as introduced.

Official Summary
7/31/2009--Introduced.Roosevelt Scholars Act of 2009 - Establishes the Theodore Roosevelt Scholarship Foundation as an independent establishment in the executive branch. Directs the Foundation to award scholarships in an annual nationwide competition to individuals (to be known as "Roosevelt Scholars") who are:

(1) enrolled in or seeking admission to accredited full-time graduate studies that prepare them for occupations critical to the missions of federal agencies; and
(2) nominated by persons that have direct knowledge of their academic or work experience. Sets the maximum scholarship amount at $60,000 for each of up to five academic years, covering tuition, room and board, books, materials, and fees. Requires Roosevelt Scholars to:

(1) agree to serve in the federal government for a period of years equal to the number of academic years during which they received their scholarship;

(2) complete a federal internship related to their studies while earning their degree;

(3) participate in certain extracurricular activities designed to assist their pursuit of federal careers and development of leadership qualities; and

(4) serve as sources of information regarding federal employment opportunities. Establishes the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund consisting of appropriations and gifts for such scholarships. Sets forth additional duties of the Foundation, including the creation of an online directory of all federal scholarship opportunities available to individuals pursuing federal employment and an online directory of current occupations critical to the missions of federal agencies. Amends the Internal Revenue Code to exclude Roosevelt Scholarships from gross income.

Dionne quotes Max Stier, president and chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service:

"Max Stier, a one-man evangelizing squad on behalf of government service, notes that the government must fill 273,000 "mission-critical" positions in the next three years. This will require vast improvements in the way government recruits and a new willingness on its part to invest in its workforce"

Look at that number 273,000, that’s over ¼ MILLION people added to the payroll of what is an already over-bloated, ever intrusive Federal government. It is worthy to note the time period quoted by Stier as well; “three years”, so his estimate of 273k does not take into account two other large proposals currently being debated sure to add yet even more thousands to the government payroll should they pass, Health care and Cap-and-Trade with all the bureaucracies and regulations related to them.

This is nothing more than another ploy by liberals under the guise of education to increase the size of government as that is their 'critical mission'. And involving ‘education’ and Dionne’s description of ROTC this means none other than indoctrination into socialist policy.

Of course raising taxes has to occur to achieve and maintain this increase and by keeping those recruits in servitude to the government (serve in the federal government for a period of years equal to the number of academic years during which they received their scholarship) it deprives the private-sector of home-grown talent.

Looking at the catch phrase 'Change you can believe in' makes no sense at all in historical context, where 'More of the same' is more appropriate.

FUN WITH DEFICIT NUMBERS

The following piece I ran across at americanthinker.com and wanted to share it in full as opposed to just the link.

I always find it amazing when thoughtful, talented people take the time to crunch the numbers pertaining to the federal government. These figures are so high now that most cannot begin to understand the enormity of them.

These talented people such as Lee DeCovnick, break these numbers down in such a way so that it is very understandable to the great unwashed masses. The only thing I have added to this piece is some emphasis and the illustrations for even further understanding in the visual realm.

FUN WITH DEFICIT NUMBERS
By Lee DeCovnick

The Federal deficit for October is reported to top $176.4 billion dollars. The WEIGHT of this many one-dollar bills equals the weight of two aircraft carriers. Laid end-to-end, this many bills would reach almost half way to Mars.

Each SECOND in October the federal debt could pay for a new Corvette Z06. That's enough Corvettes to stretch from New York to Shanghai.

Each MINUTE the deficit grows by $3.95 million, the equivalent of buying a new MRI machine, and funding the professionals needed to maintain and operate it 24/7 for an entire year. That's over forty-four thousand new MRI clinics worldwide, in one month.

Each HOUR, for a cool $237.1 million, the taxpayers could afford fifty-five brand new M1-A Abrams main battle tanks. So that's forty-one thousand tanks in October, as compared to the entire WWII US war production of forty-seven thousand Sherman tanks. That would be a real stimulus package.

Each DAY we sink a further $5.7 billion in debt. Those same dollars could construct, equip and staff four large research and teaching hospitals. Would we even need socialized healthcare if this country built a hundred and twenty-four new, fully staffed hospitals in October?

What does $176.4 billion really mean to the working taxpayer? Well, each household's share of the Federal debt is increasing by $49 A DAY.

Our deficit spending is out of control, and Congress is attempting to spend even more on socialized healthcare and other political payoffs to special interests. The irrationality of adding to this debt goes beyond political ideology and enters the realm of fiscal insanity and malicious intentions.

(Lee DeCovnick is a retired engineer and did the math and fact checking himself for this piece.)

Czar Alert !

Obama to attack guns as public-health threat?
Another threat to the 2nd Amendment coming from OSHA nominee,,,

Obama has nominated David Michaels, a George Washington University professor and the chief of the Project on Scientific Knowledge and Public Policy, which reportedly partially is funded by George Soros.(There's that name again)

The controversial OSHA nominee and left-leaning public health advocate also seems to have strong views on firearms issues. That’s by no means irrelevant to the agenda of an agency like OSHA, because once you start viewing private gun ownership as a public health menace, it begins to seem logical to use the powers of government to urge or even require employers to forbid workers from possessing guns on company premises, up to and including parking lots, ostensibly for the protection of co-workers.

In addition, OSHA has authority to regulate the working conditions of various job categories associated with firearms use (security guards, hunting guides, etc.) and could in that capacity do much to bring grief to Second Amendment values".
(h/t overlawyered.com/)

Only two years ago, Michaels condemned proposals in Georgia and Florida that would have allowed workers to carry guns to and from their places of work for protection. This had nothing to do with bringing weapons into places of work.

He continued in his 2007 writing to laud the ability of the federal government to respond by creating new laws to ban activities or behaviors.

"When the toll of preventable and pointless deaths or injuries from any single event or related events becomes so great, or particular aspects of the story bring it to the public's attention, our nation invariably demands more and stronger regulation, not less," Michaels wrote at the time.

Now 2nd Amendment advocates have heard the following line of reasoning from Michaels before but remember what agency he may oversee-OSHA. Also keep in mind that he has taken it further to include the current issue of 'public health':

"In the U.S., we see an average of one gun-related homicide every 45 minutes, or 32 each day," he wrote. "These are usually treated as isolated incidents, until a horrific event like the Virginia Tech massacre reawakens the public and strengthens public health advocates who are attempting to prevent gun violence."

What this "reasoning" ignores first-off is obvious or should be,The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects a right to keep and bear arms; "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed".

It also ignores what would have prevented or reduced the number of deaths at VA Tech and similar tragedies especially in a school setting; Had teachers, administration, custodial staff been trained & licensed in weapons and actually ALLOWED to bring them on campus the crazed shooter would have been killed very quickly lessening the carnage. Also,VA Tech being a college, the students themselves being adults and having met the same criteria as stated above should also be allowed to carry.

Also in that case,it was shown the shooter had a 'mental' history,so how did he buy the gun? Well once again laws are passed (and everyone agrees to purchase a gun you must be free of any mental disorder) but government does not abide by their own rules and people die needlessly.

Not long after the VA Tech case there was a nut case that opened fire at a church out West, reacting quickly a former police woman drew her own legal gun and killed the the shooter, proving that when legal, responsible, trained individual gun owners react, they SAVE LIVES.

We have way too many czars, radicals and socialists in this current administration as it is! We do not need or want yet another who will attack the 2nd Amendment from the direction of OSHA. "Gun control" laws serve only to suppress and restrict LEGAL gun owners and the public at large and ultimately serve to make everyone less secure. These laws do not apply to criminals, hence their chosen path in life.

This particular nomination does require Senate confirmation so it can be stopped.

Call, write, fax or e-mail Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow and tell them to OPPOSE this nomination!

In Honor of Veteran's Day

Friends, readers and fellow Patriots, today is set aside for those who have fought for and defended what freedoms we Americans and others around the globe still yet enjoy to this day.

On this day or any other day for that matter, I cannot forget nor ever will my father may he R.I.P., as he served our Nation as a Master Sergeant, 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army-commonly known as the Big Red One. I am sure many Americans have similar stories about themselves, relatives and friends and my wish is to honor them all with this post.

Besides his status as a veteran, the other reason I mention my Dad is this: He taught me so much in all subjects but most of all instilled in me a love for our Nation and those who most assuredly put Country First, our Nations best - The United States Armed Forces, be it not for them who would we be?

This also serves to understand my ‘profile photo’ and why I chose it. My Dad was born Canadian (not a Granholm type Canadian) , he emigrated to the U.S., joined the U.S. Army and then was naturalized as an American citizen. He understood freedom and opportunity when he saw it and rightly so with Canada living under a particular Monarchy (yes, our Vet's defeated that same monarchy) longer than it's neighbor to the South and with liberties slowly eroding. But he knew better by becoming a U.S. Soldier and citizen and sought to immerse himself in it by first defending his new Nation.
(Side issue here, but talk about real legal immigration! )

It is my sincere wish that the videos posted below the fold are as enjoyable to you as they are to me!

On this day,I could not think of a better way to commemorate it by highlighting it with each Branch of the Military doing the Honor's themselves as they so impressively do with such dedication, precision and accuracy that it is truly awesome! I am sure most people have seen some military drill team in person or video before, but I am also pretty sure that most have not seen all five American Military Drill Teams in one setting before.

This blog takes different forms in it's short history but I strive to stay true to its title and my own commitment to futhering conservative thought. With this post on this day in Honor of our veteran's, I pray that Veteran's Day and those it honors is fully appreciated by all American's, but fear that if it not for conservative, God-fearing thought based on our Republics Constititional founding, we would see this dedicated event come to an end as the left have no respect for our military as is evident in thier polocies, actions or inactions for that matter. As an example of changing the name and the meaning of a 'day' by liberal's I submit the following; 9-11 was recently changed to a "day of service" from "Never Forget"? So our Military under the command of B. Hussein Obama is being put in harms way for fighting for "service" and NOT because we are at war with enemies that attacked us and will do so again given the chance ?

As always comment's are more than welcome if you so choose and please share your story. But on this day I chose to let the Military do the 'commenting' first in a fashion that I believe is more than appropriate and a fitting tribute to our U.S. Veteran's.

I am a firm supporter of our Military and again I hope you find this small collection as enjoyable as I do. An absolute, awesome display of precision!

May God Bless the United States Military past and present and a huge THANK YOU for your service !

{ Note(s); (a) To the United States Army: I apologize for sound quality, but I sacrificed sound for best visual of your Drill Team as I could locate at the time of this posting. (b) There is no particular order of video placement as to preference, all unique and extremely skillful and also encourage as time permits, to watch all of them ! }

Prayer for Fort Hood / Open Thread

Much has been and will be said about the recent horrendous attack on Fort Hood, but for my part I simply offer my Prayers and support for the fallen and wounded as goes for all of our hero's.

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in you with your saints forever.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

UPDATE,,Let Your Voice Be Heard: A Message From Congressman Mike Pence

***UPDATE***

Sen. Tom Coburn, the Oklahoma Republican who developed a close friendship with President Obama when they served together in the Senate, is threatening to have the entire health care bill read on the Senate floor.

Senior Senate Democratic aides had heard Coburn was considering having potentially thousands of pages read aloud in effort to stall passage. “If he did this it would be even outrageous for a guy who’s become known as Dr. No around here,” one of them told POLITICO.

Coburn’s office confirmed that he is indeed thinking about having the bill read.

This could create even more problems for Harry Reid in getting the bill out the door. Unlike in the House, Reid hasn’t been able to do a jam-down on his version of ObamaCare. While a few Democrats still hold out hope for action on the bill by Christmas, some are now setting a target of the State of the Union address at the end of January as more realistic.

If Coburn and other Republicans force floor readings of the bill, that may drift into March or April. If Coburn insists on a floor reading every time the bill gets amended, it may be summertime before they can get around to it. The Senate has other business to conduct, which would interrupt floor readings that would take at least several straight days of floor time to complete for a bill that will run into the thousands of pages. And all it takes is one Senator to withhold the unanimous consent necessary to dispense with floor readings.

In effect, it would allow Coburn to have the bill filibuster itself.

Publicity stunt? Sure. But Coburn’s action would give people plenty of time to find the ridiculous aspects of a bill that would quasi-nationalize 1/6th of the American economy — its reach, its taxes, its mandates, and its intrusion onto the personal choices and freedoms of Americans. The more people have seen these bills, the less they have liked them. That’s why Pelosi’s trying to jam down her bill this weekend, and why Reid can’t afford to let anyone read his bill, let alone the Senate clerk doing it aloud. (h/t hotair.com)
