As many readers of CP know I am a reformed Roman Catholic, meaning I am Christian but not in any way shape or form a member of that Church.
There are those that wish that I return and in that vein I wish to offer an example of exactly why I will not until such time the Church itself does,,,,,,
Now I fully admit that I have had no forwarded copy of the Pontiff's book so the piece offered above is most likely out of context but that does not leave Benedict off the hook.
Is it not for a Pontiff to explain and defend a book already written called the Holy Bible or write their own looking to supersede it thus making a 'new reality' based on pagan beliefs?
On top of that reality we have a human who claims by election of humans to be the Right Hand of God on Earth explaining the proper way to SODOMIZE!?!?!
There are definite questions to be asked and the answers had better be forthcoming.
My God, what is the Vatican thinking?

Martin Luther had many of the same issues with what the Roman Catholic church had transformed. But just remember nothing is perfect in this world. Sin is in every church and every religion thanks to Adam and Eve. The solution isn't always to leave but to become a driving force within the church. Martin Luther tryed to reform the Roman Catholic church back to it's original form. That is where the Reformation comes to play. But like all churches the Lutheran church and all splitoffs since the reformation have delt with the same fall as the Roman Catholic church. It seems as though the Devil is in the details when following Gods Word. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. But the key is when we realize what we or the church have done wrong they must repent. A good reason to not leave the church is Baptism,Holly Communion and Confesion of sins. Jesus did tell us,"As OFTEN as you drink this". I know what you are going though Chris. I also moved away from the church and then came back. We shouldn't throw out the Baby with the bathwater. Gods speed on this journey of yours.
I never understood the whole condom ban for people who are already sinning anyway...
The Pope is a religious leader, and religious leaders speak out on moral issues. Since we all don't think the same, its bound to stir controversy.
Chris,,,I am not "going through" anything, I am stating it. It is no "journey", I have been a Christian since birth and will continue to be after death, so I never left the Church Jesus built adding onto His Fathers.
Now that cleared up is not the point of the post. It is however a religious leader explaining in his view the correct way to commit sin!
Silver,,, It certainly is controversial for a Pontiff to direct how sin is to be accomplished.
How that equates to morality is beyond me?
Pagan? Following the line of Peter is not pagan. Where on earth did you get that notion? His words have been taken out of context. The people who make up the Church are human. How would you have the head of Christ's Church be elected? Jesus did found the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I challenge you to refute that fact. You can look in the Bible for evidence. So, you think that passing along AIDS is moral? I don't think that you do but coming out in full force like this when you are ill-informed or clearly don't understand the facts is irresponsible. I will have a post explaining the Pope's true words and their true meaning.
Hi Christoper, I'm reformed too. I want NOTHING to do with "That" hypocritical church. Don't get me started....ha ha. =-O I know why he's reversing that, so all the peodo's won't get infected.
Also, that practice of making people call them "father".
There is only one father, besides your own biological one.
My Father is GOD IN HEAVEN. The whole breaucracy of these creeps disgusts me.
Sorry if I offend some folks, but I take no stock in this "organized" religion.
The mafia is organized too, and frankly I'd rather throw my lot in with them, at lease you know what you're getting into then. :-E
Well Said, Chris.
I hope you have a blessed day and weekend.
It's a controversial subject, but since we're on the same page here,
I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
PS to Bonsai, you can be baptized by any real practicing CHRISTIAN, not Catholic exclusively. Also you can partake of Communion with another Christian "when 2 or more are gathered in my name". You also can confess your sins directly to GOD HIMSELF, as it was intended.
You can also go stand out in the woods naked and beat drums...
Teresa,,,Did the ancient Greeks not practice sodomy? Yes. Would consider their worship of several 'gods' paganistic?
By Benedict explaining how to have safer sexual sin he is in fact advocating it by omission of denouncing it. I highly doubt Peter would advocate homosexual behavoir.
As to the head of the Church, His name is Jesus so we agree on that and being He hand-picked a representative, Peter, that is the tradition that should have been followed i.e. a Pope hand-picking his successor not a 'vote'. Being that was not the followed path in the Roman Rite I see the Eastern Orthodox Rite as more palatable.
I look forward to your post.
Bunni,,, Thanks for weighing in on this. I know it is very controversial but you hit the right notes with 'organized religion' and 'bureaucracy'.
Many Church members such as Teresa, God Bless her, take my words as an attack on the Church itself which could not be further from the truth. It is exactly the words you used that I believe has corrupted the message that Jesus and His Father set out to deliver.
These clergical bureaucrats treat the Holy Bible like the socialists treat the Constitution, changing it's meaning to fit with their "worldview" and where I come from that is deemed as heresy.
So is the New Testament valid? It was voted on by Catholic Church Bureaucracy back in the 300's.
You can also confess your sins to a pastor or priest or as we Lutherans do a public and private confesisons as well. Since I'm not Catholic I know any Christian can baptize another Christian. My mother did just that for my dieing uncle.
Christopher you said you were a practicing Catholic and now you are not. That shows movcement away or towards something thus the "journey". And since you have stated in the past that you haved moved away from the Catholic church and towards the Church Jesus built that is "going through" something. Sorry if that bothered you.
Chris,,,Yes practicing until Confirmed and that was a long time ago, decades really, so any movement happened long ago and it was no journey, it was an abrupt goodbye.
I can sum it up really borrowing in some fashion from Ronald Reagan; I did not leave the Roman Catholic Church, they left me.
As stated I have never stopped being Christian so I have never left the Church Jesus Himself built.
Of coures it is but the problem is what was left out i.e. the Apocryphal Gospels.
And I differ on your use of the word voting in this siutation being what was included and or thrown out was by decree of the Roman Empire under Roman Emperor Constantine.
I understand :) :) :)
