Memories of Youth

You ever have those times where something you read, heard or saw brought you back to your youth and brought a smile? Or maybe it wanted you to reconnect with a distant friend? Or just hearkened back to a day to when things seemed to be better in general? Well The War Planner got me thinking just that and I thank him for that.

With his post: 'Date night, fellow babies' he got me wanting to jam out to some Heavy Metal as some who visit here are aware I enjoy. In my now long distant youth (age wise) I took in as many Heavy Metal concerts as I could afford and the free ones (actually no such thing, somebody paid for them) were always the best.

Now mixing memories of youth, heavy metal and free might be a stretch for some but it brought back all that I started this post with. Long story short, a friend worked at a company (that soon after I did also work for) and he asked if I wanted to go to a concert? I stated I could not afford it, he said no problem, his boss was paying. I asked "what gives'? Well it turned out his boss had bought tickets for his nieces and friends but the friends could not attend for whatever reason, so he got the chance to go and a friend, being me.

Now of course I said no problem, but had no idea of who the other people were and really did not care at that point.

The night arrives, we get inside the arena in downtown Detroit and I meet my friends boss and his nieces,, at this point I realise just why my friend, a very good friend indeed invited me, the nieces are gorgeous !

OK, The band featured was Def Leppard and warming up for them was Krokus.

This is a very fun tune for me and a great driving tune as well,,,,,,(turn up your speakers, I know you want to)

The night was a blast but turned out Krokus was the band that got all the curtain calls (Detroit is a tough crowd).

As stated I eventually worked for the same company as my friend and one of the nieces did as well and ,,,,,,

Memories of youth!

Rock-n-Roll. Def Leppard has a great sound. As a retired amateur musician I like variety in rock-n-roll. As you might remember back in June of this year I went (and posted on the blog) to a lynyrd Skynyrd concert. Thought I was 20 something again. And just like back then, I got $10 seats but instead of rushing the stage to get closer, we were invited by LS down closer. Where did you see DL at, Cobo?

I too, was a Def Lepard fan.

Lynyrd Skynyrd rocks Mark! I was formerly unaware of your musical talent and must say I wish I had picked-up an instrument earlier in life. I too share a love of music in a variety of genres. :)

As to where that particular concert was I would have to dig up the ticket stub (yes, I have them all) but it could have been a rather new at the time, Joe Louis Arena also.

Was Trestin? They still get out and about :)

Def Leppard rocks! All the hair bands were fine with me, no matter what some rock "snobs" say. I love them all. I would like to add to the tales about fun concerts, but I had so much fun, I forgot them....hee hee. I didn't go to as many as you though. Most of the arena's you need a car to get to, and we didn't have any. We'd just go to the park and blast the radio and have fun that way, and watch MTV, etc.

Thanks for sharing your fun story, Christopher. Youth is wasted on the young, and the young are often wasted. ;) =-O O:-)

Hiya Bunni,,,Being in the Greater Detroit (Motown) area is a plus when it comes to concert venues, there are just so many of them besides the major one's being Joe Lois Arena, Cobo Arena, The Fox Theater, The Palace of Auburn Hills, Ford Field and Comerica Park, DTE Amphitheater (Pine Knob) and of course the casinos and smaller music halls

There were and still are times that it is hard to choose what concert to see; you could have AC/DC playing at the Palace on the same night as Van Halen at Joe Louis!

(p.s., The boss in the post was the very same one I commented about in your last post)

You and that guy get around! :) You were lucky to have such fun venues to go to.

Ah Bunni,, You use the term "were" as in the past tense.

Still here awaiting the Apocalypse? but also still have the venues! As of late though more to the sounds of country but those are even, enjoyably so, invaded by the likes of Uncle Ted Nugent and Kid Rock at least here in Motown. 8-)
