My All-Time Favorite Christmas Song - JOY TO THE WORLD

I have loved this song for as long as I can recall. My Mother just simply loved Christmas and always made it special (like most things) and this song was always a part of our family Christmas.

Now in more recent times I had come across the musical ensemble of Mannheim Steamroller and their wonderful version of the song.

No, El Rushbo was not the source, actually I heard them long before Rush put them in his rotation music so you might say I was ahead of the curve on this,,lol. This will shock some, but I actually became aware of them by surfing TV channels and landed on PBS when my ears caught a sound that encapsulated my heart.

When I first heard this my reaction was that this is EXACTLY how people should hear it; the instruments make the sounds of angels singing, the lights speak for the atmosphere that might be Heaven and the actions and faces of the musicians speak for all of us.

Mannheim Steamroller performs many if not all the classic Christmas songs and also their own originals but in my humble opinion this version of 'Joy To The World' is just the best ever.

To me, the sounds and lights spell out what Christmas is all about, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and all the Joy He brings to the World! Absolutely majestic and appropriately so.

This is but a small forum from which to view this (go full screen) and fully believe all should get a copy to see on your televisions if you have not been to one of their concerts.

I really enjoy listening to Joy to the World as well.  My mother got me listening to Mannheim Steamroller, and that's saying something cause I like words with my music. Thanks for posting, Christopher.

Excellent version.  I also like when it is sung with lyrics 'cuz it depicts Jesus Christ as more than just a cute little baby.  "He rules the world with..."

Teresa, I am sure you know I grew up not only listening but also signing the words to this song so I understand your sentiment. That said, I stick to my words that I believe this is by far the best version.

I am pleased you enjoyed this as I was quite sure you would! :)

We agree 'guest', Alluding to my response to Teresa, I grew-up in the Roman Catholic tradition, so I am more than aware of the words to this song. This is why I love this version so; No words, just the entire spirit captured and then blasted out to the world. :)

Opie,, I am pleased your Mother did so but mine was not around to see them rise, sadly. She would have enjoyed such profound talent to turn words into angelic sounds.

I so pray the world finds joy and soon as the opposite is unthinkable.

Mannheim Steamroller is awesome.  I have a few Christmas as well as non-Christmas CDs by them.

I have too many favorite Christmas songs to mention, but on Steamroller's last year release they did an awesome version of Greensleeves.

Once again we agree Silver. 'Awesome' is a perfect adjective for Mannheim!

I did hear on Rush's' show that demand is so high for their performances that now there are several ensembles touring, now that is the sort of distribution I can agree to. :)
