Protect and Serve? Cops Caught on Camera

I am not one to indict all those who join the ranks of police officers but after the last post one should wonder who is on what side let alone what side arms they hold, or better stated what side arms YOU should hold,,

There is not only good reason to debate the constitutionality of what is deemed "privacy" when filming in public of what is essentially your employee with most if not all knowing that there is no "expectation of privacy" in public to begin with but also why the hell we should pay for their pensions.

There is an excellent debate on the latter point (public service pensions) over at "Fredd Sez" and encourage participation in it as it affects us all.

Great post! The notion that these are videos of OUR employees is something I hadn't really considered. But you're spot on. The lack of sanctions for wrongful prosecutions mentioned in the clip is also something that deserves further scrutiny. When video evidence exonerates a citizen, there should be a harsh penatly for those who used their authority to essentially behave like a bully. We give remunerations to those who were wrongfully incarcerated and subsequently pardoned by DNA evidence; there is good cause to ponder a similar system for citizens whose lives were unduly encumbered by legal fees and the stress of impending prosecution by those (admittedly few) public servants who have used our legal system to cover their bad behavior.

Angel, To be honest I am confused as to what exactly you are saying "we shouldnt" do here? *DONT_KNOW*

FMP,,,It would not get to the point of reenumeration's had the evidence not been destroyed which they spoke about as well proving tampering with the evidence but also (not a lawyer here) would bring a destruction of private property along with it.

No public service employee from the POTUS down to the dog catcher has any expectation of privacy while working and I believe only the corrupt ones fear it.

Think of dash-cams in patrol cars, or a camera trained on you at a DMV or even your local City Hall,,,whip your cell phones out and film right back!

Hi Christopher . . The cop in the video made a big mistake. There was no reason for him to draw his weapon. His weapons carry permit should be withdrawn and he should be reassigned to a desk job (or fired).

But this guy is very much the exception. Cops today face a public with an attitude. Their job is becoming more dangerous all the time and yet the people they protect are quick to criticize them. Too quick. Most Cops follow the rules. Most spend an entire career without drawing their weapon. They are ignored and abused - while trying to protect us. Shouldn't we be just as quick to pat them on the back.

"This video is not available in your country" :(  So i'm not sure of the context but here is what our boys in blue get up to' 13th December, 'student' riots in London

Caution, very strong language from bystanders but that language itself gives the lie to the impression of th video that the wheelchair user was a poor innocent victim of police brutality.

This is an example of cops gone dirty. These cops need to either be assigned to a desk job, go to some type of anger management and/or retrained, or simply be fired.  The privacy laws should be struck down.  Taxpayers pay for these public servant's salaries so their can be no reasonable expectation of privacy.

Bump,,,Taking my opening line into consideration I believe we agree, to a point.

I know and have known many a police officer in the Detroit Police Department and I can tell you from personal experience (not an arresting one, ever) that it is about a 50/50 split between the type in the video and the ones you describe.

In the cases of the featured cops in the video I believe the various departments need to better police their own before people get killed or prosecuted for no apparent reason other than to cover-up.

KEEP FILMING!!!!

Banned,  Here is a link to the story which will explain the video piece:

You will see the events in Britain do not compare to what I posted about.

Teresa,,,Please view my response below to Bump, there simply needs to be better screening of psycopaths!
