9.1% - Employment "growth" slows sharply in May?

As Michael Barone cited this past week , todays linked article on Drudge about the rise in unemployment to 9.1% is full of the "unexpected" but Reuters takes the liberal prize in titling the piece 'Employment growth slows sharply in May'.

How anyone can call an increase in unemployment slow growth in employment really should have their collective heads examined and cease from referring to themselves as journalists.

Just the start of the article says this,,,,

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. economy may be in for a prolonged period of soft growth as employers hired the fewest number of workers in eight months in May and the unemployment rate rose to 9.1 percent.
Hiring fewer people does not add to the official number of the unemployed, that is caused by people losing a job.

The article goes on to explain,,,,

The rise in the unemployment rate from 9.0 percent in April reflected discouraged workers who had been inspired by the pick-up in hiring in April re-entering the labor market.
That is idiotic and false. Unemployment numbers are derived from those actually receiving benefits, so those "discouraged workers" were not counted in April to begin with. Further, since hiring was not taking place those same workers did not get hired or even if they did, not nearly long enough to qualify for unemployment benefits so again could not be counted.

A rise from 9.0 to 9.1% in unemployment can only be explained by people losing their jobs which means they were not previously counted among the unemployed.

I suggest a different title to the article; 'Unemployment growth sharply increases in May', as the only growth seen here is the number of the unemployed.

Lying bastids! But what else do we expect from them? The Troot? Nah...

Yeah, ya gotta love the spin on the increased unemployment numbers. "Slowed growth"???? That was the stupidest thing I read all day.

Ah, yes, good old Reuters. The same folks who won't use the word "terrorism."

Contrast the current Obamanomics reporting with how the press constantly bad-mouthed and talked down the Bush economy, which was much better than this.

Thanks for posting this Christopher- the lamestream has been trying so hard to spin the numbers ever since last year's "summer of recovery" which most of us have yet to see.  I so wish the government would get out of the way so we can get back to work- but then again, that's not the marxist way is it.  God Bless you Christopher~

They (the MSM that is) are trying to sugarcoat this for Obama. We are still above 8% since the early 09 calender year. That can only mean one thing (we hope), the end to this administration.

Hey Sig,,Just using the linked article as an example one can glean the true numbers and huge problems we face if one knows how to read between the lines that is, but for those who cannot all they see is a glass half full and expecting better.

I used the term false and you used stronger; 'lying', which really there is no difference but it is the manipulation of those who cannot discern beyond those word's, rather play on word's, that disturbs me the most.

It is up to all of us on the blogsphere and in our personal lives to talk to those who do not see what we see as they will and do understand when laid out in terms of reality and you my friend as do all in the left sidebar do on a daily basis do exactly just that and I salute you for it.

Eurip,,, I agree and when I read that I needed to vent (a controlled vent) as this 'stuff' is getting beyond ridiculous.

Anyone who believes this sort of 'journalism' is not a concerted effort to protect and advance a socialist / Marxist agenda must also belong to the Flat Earth Society.

Karen,,, You got that right but again (alluded to below) Reuters got that memo straight from the White House and of course heeded it's call; Tow the line or be ostracized.

The same goes for the NYT, AP, MSLSD, CNN,,,,,,on and on as I am positive you already know.

Silver,,, You bring up a well known contrast at least among conservatives and libertarians, but is the best way to explain this to those who are easily manipulated by casual reading of such subjects of which there are way too many, unfortunately.

If in fact we actually had an unbiased press (in this country anyhow) Bush would be seen as a superstar President compared and contrasted with what we are stuck with now.

being a conservative myself I can honestly say I am no big fan of GW in his administration (I highly respect him as a man though) but history will show him to rank much, much higher, light years that is, ahead of Obama.

Hello Carolyn,,,I agree on the government getting out of the way, of course, but if the "press" would actually do their job in an unbiased fashion then I dare say more would see, read and hear as we do.

What the LSM are doing to those who, for whatever reason cannot comprehend I believe is not only un-American but immoral in every regard.

I wish to add a sincere wish that God may Bless you and yours as well! :)

Mark,,,I believe Slick Willy said it best (or someone in his circle); It's the economy stupid" in regards who to vote,,,against.

This time around it is not just a tag line but a very, very real situation that cannot be ignored by anyone and just who is to blame.

"White guilt" is now a past thought as people of all stripes are considering Herman Cain for example who has a very different ideology and all have seen what unadulterated liberalism/socialism can do to destroy a society in all facets of it,,firsthand.

Thus far I am not excited about the candidates of the GOP field for POTUS (leaning toward Cain absent another conservative) but there are those I speak with who are literally saying as they never have before; anybody but,,Obama.
