Holidays usually bring about these types of interview-on-the-street, impromptu questions pertaining to the holiday we mark and knowledge of it.
Now of course we celebrate our nations Independence Day this weekend culminating on July 4, 2011 marking 235 years of independence and freedom from the British Monarchy.
But one would not know that if they were born sometime after 1964 (best guess) and in a liberals case,,,ever. Mark Dice takes this interview style to the beach, well the description sums it up;
"Mark Dice talks with beachgoers in San Diego, California to ask them why the 4th of July holiday was started. Many of them have no clue at all and simply agree with him when he insinuates blatantly false explanations"

"Independence from....... FREEDOM" LMAO! Nice find, Christopher!
YEEECH our Country is doomed. :)
Soooo, since we are celebrating our independence from Mexico, could be that they must be flooding across the border to win it back?
This must be a Democrat only beach. >:o
That video is surreal.
How far down America has sunk!
BTW, I'll be linking to this tomorrow.
And therein lies the root of our problems
Christopher,
I have linked with a hat tip.

As much as I love you guys, you don't come off well.
By all means challenge my assertions. I have proof.
You won't like it though.
CR.
Terrible!
Unreal. Disgusting. And they're probably college grads.
Dude, everyone knows it's the Jews that own us. And the Russians who recently sold us to China..
It's not about teachers and unions and what ever the latest buzz words are. It's about teachers NOT teaching and parents letting them get away with it! :-P :-P :-P
Not the country Mark, just idiots like those in the video.
Well it was a SoCal beach afterall Jaded,,,,,,, >:o
8-) :) 8-)
8-) :) 8-)
I guess real far AOW but seems no one is noticing just where this was filmed,,CALIFORNIA. The other 56,,oops,,,49 States might have a chance yet *DONT_KNOW*
Cool and thanks AOW, spreading the word might help in waking some up *DONT_KNOW*
Silver, Look deeper for the roots like the NEA,,,,,,, >:o
Cheers Captain,
I respectfully disagree with your assertions in your post as history itself proves quite a different outcome. Simply put the Colonists wanted nothing from the Crown of England but rather to get it the hell out of North America along with the rest of the European Imperialists. The last term there is exactly what the colonists wanted no part of any more.
Then came the War of 1812 where the Crown was once again the protagonist against the country now formalized the United States. Sure we lost Canada but that was in a fight against the Crown. The big losers in that war were not the U.S. nor England for that matter but rather the Native Indians of which both our Nations are part and parcel too due to England's actions from the start.
As too what you call taxes paid to the Crown in present day, again I differ as we here call it FOREIGN AID as that is what it is, monetary aid.
Captain,,,You may have sparked a fire with the Catholic comment,,,lol,,, but I tend to agree.
Kid,,,I differ with both you and Captain on this "who owns us" deal. Not saying know what group (Bilderburgs) does but know a name that has fucked us all and that being George Soros.
Thats an understatement Supi !
Kid, I would say that is a very safe bet! >:o
Odie, While I agree it would be with a caveat. Those are not buzz words.
The teachers unions have protected bad teachers and allowed revisionist (pick any subject) to be allowed in what used to be considered a safe place to be and be educated called a SCHOOL. They are the very root of the problem by allowing themselves to be co-opted by the socialist left.
This is not to excuse parents at all, but read again my best guess at a year and you will note that most parents of today were brought up through the same system of re-education.
Well what the hell Captain,,,it's the Fourth of July!!!!!!!!

<span>Simply put the Colonists wanted nothing from the Crown of England but rather to get it the hell out of North America</span>
Not quite, they would have been happy (but for how long?) with lower tax/more representation. Had the Crown conceded back then who knows where we'd be now.
That would not explain the wording in the document known the world over as The 'Declaration of Independence'.
If you are unfamiliar with that document you can find it easily at the top of this page by clicking on the tab named "American Essentials".
<span>Are you being sarcastic? You have a "like" icon under my comment (or was that a mistake and you then clicked on reply? The Declaration of Independence</span><span> was even thought of after many years (decades) of a build-up of colonists being disgruntled with the British government and finally the Monarchy. Have you read about the mainly ignored Molasses Act? The Sugar Act? Stamp Act? The Townshend Acts (</span><span>Tea Tax etc)? Boston Tea Party? Have you heard the phrase "no taxation without representation" before? Have you read what Jefferson and others were saying for years long before they decided on independence?
</span>
<span>If you are unfamiliar with any of these events or ideas etc you can find it all fairly easily, try Google. </span>
I'll put your reply down to presuming you've had a few too many morning beers. ;)
Span,
As your comment was not in my opinion distasteful and I enjoy discussion I did indeed "like" it.
As to the timing of the document in question one would surmise that that had more to do with the actions of the Crown over time itself culminating with the Stamp Act.
All of what you speak of I do know of and appreciate as I wish more did but must ask why a Spaniard would venture into this discussion? Or are you an ex patriot of either the U.S. or the UK ?
As to beer, later my friend. :)
I was just puttin him on a bit. Right now, I'd say whoever is buying congress is who owns us. The banks have sure robbed us F-ing blind over this 'financial crisis' they played a huge part in creating. Tens of trillions of dollars printed up for them (Fed buying their worthless mortgage paper) and they're still printing. That inflation will rob us our kids, their kids etc Blind.
Indeed Karen, Some have said that it is easy to tear things down and harder to restore them but I myself do not adhere to that so we all should keep going,,for all's sake.
Have a Blessed and relaxing 235th Independence Day/Weekend yourself! 8-)
I remember a similar sad excercise about 15 years ago with 11 year olds when asked where was Australia of which the majority had no idea or even mentioned a kangaroo and a suprisingly large percentage thought it was the place that Santa Claus lived.
So it cannot be them because they would be 26, but it is a sad reflection of education priorities. I am a Brit, I am also a Spanish national and I was born and grew up (minus university) and continue to live in Gibraltar. I am proud of the history of both my nations as well as of this Rock I live on and I can guarentee that every one of us Gibraltans knows all three histories very well.
My question and this I hope is considered O/T is that we had the situation of a number of popularist politicians and public figures screwing-up the 4th of July and that famous ride by Paul Revere, is this a reflection of what people are expected to know today?
In my frequent trips over the decades to the US I noted with some admiration how much the people I know had not only a moderate but instead a detailed and proud knowledge of their founding, their original leaders, the founding fathers and events leading to Independance Day.

Damien,
I thank you for your comment and welcome another Gibraltaran(sp?) to this blog.
Your question/statement on politicians I fear is not limited to the U.S. but at the same time residents of any nation, that is patriots of said nations, or the majority know better or so they should.
The video above is but a tiny sample of socialists in the U.S. and is meant too wake people up to the growing ignorance (by design) that is occurring on our shores.
I am quite positive by your statement of Nationalities that you are quite aware of exactly what we conservatives in the U.S. wish to avoid and this can only be achieved by knowing of our beginning.
Thank you for your opinion and it is my wish that you stop by often. 8-)

<span>Thanks Christopher. I live in Spain but I'm an Ex pat Brit with family in the USA (on my Dad's side we know we have ancestors since 1677 - with at least one senator and state governor over the years - and on my mum's side I have cousins in Minnesota)</span>
I popped in via Captain Ranty's blog. I've seen similar videos before re Americans but also Brits, in fact a big 'rant' of mine is the poor teaching and study of history these days. With some schoolchildren it is understandable but one recent poll showed that even first year history students had a poor grasp of what I would consider simple English/British history that every primary school pupil knew 'in my day'.
Anyway, keep up the good work and enjoy the holiday weekend! 8-)
Thank you Span :) , your presence is welcome here at CP 8-)
