Some readers may be aware of the CP family canine matriarch Bailey as I have written here and elsewhere about this one particular family member.
Bailey had reached the end of her rope today after nearly 17 years of pure and unrelenting mutual love, fun and loyalty. Without a doubt it is a very sad day in our household as she will be missed greatly.
In short my Wife (then Girlfriend) and I happened upon a scene where we ended-up rescuing this puppy to be later named Bailey and it was with very heavy hearts that we came to the decision to have her euthanized today. Bailey basically 'told' us it was her time; walking, eating and drinking one day then enough was enough for her, she was ready to go.
We love you Bailey and thank you for everything!

I'm dreading the day I have to make that decision.
Unfortunately it comes with the responsibility Inno. We saw it coming due to Baileys advanced age (which in of itself is remarkable) but when she telegraphed she had had enough, well you know, it was the right thing to do by her. Hard yes, but right.
We never left her alone up until the very end, she always stood by us so we honored her with the very same loyalty. :'(
Sorry to hear about the loss.
I love dogs but hate to lose them, so I have been a man's best friendless for years.
Hang in there,

Thank you Jaded!!!! 8-)
Sorry to hear about Bailey. You and yours are in my thoughts.
Thank you Stopsign, Our 'little' one Riley is rather on edge but being we are all of the same 'pack' we are comforting each other and your thoughts help that in so many ways! 8-)
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Christopher. We've been there often and know it doesn't ever get any easier. They've all been children to us.
We've had them go on their own and we've taken them in mercy as you have done here. I know it's better for us when we get to be with them and comfort them and I'd like to believe it is for them too. I believe it is.
A door closes and a door opens.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Dogs her size almost never make it to 17 years, you must have taken excellent care of her.
I've never owned a dog Chris but have twice taken the dogs of others to the vet to be 'put to sleep'; you have all my sympathy at this sorry time.
I gather that having a pet is regarded as being good for children as it teaches them to deal with the death of a loved one before that of their parents.
Thank you Kid! 8-) Bailey was a great friend and as it turns out a great teacher to Riley.
So your statement remains so true as excellence breeds the same!
Thank you Opie! 8-) I believe she took better care of us but we did our best to return the favor. She was definitely one of a kind! I know, all say such things but if you actually saw her flying in air for a ball you might well agree.
When I say "fly" I mean it,,,lol,,,Michael Jordan could only wish!
Cheers Banned, It is not "owning" a pet but rather living together as a family. Really if one thinks, they end up owning us which is just fine by me.
I Thank you for your words and thought and yes, it does help in teaching responsibility but that is not the main reason, for me anyhow.
I love dogs, have grown-up with dogs and we still hane Riley, God love her, so it is more about learning to be human than "owning'.
Just my take, you always get me thinking, Thank you!
I hate to hear of your loss Chris. After our last one passed away I said no more, and Mr. Zeke appeared and needed a good home. Pets have always been part of our lives. 17 years with Bailey was a gift. You did good! Peace be with you my friend.
Christopher, so sorry to read about Bailey. Hard to lose a family pet, one who is a member of your family. Went through the same thing last Saturday, so I can relate to your heavy heart, my friend. God will watch over Bailey until you meet again! Peace be with you!
I am so sorry to hear this news. Opie is right that you and the Mrs must have taken super duper good care of Bailey to reach 17.
Good bye Bailey :'(
am sorry to hear of your loss
Thank you Randy. I believe that by Mr. Zeke appearing shows he has excellent taste!
(Love that name too!)
Mark, I to am sorry to hear of your loss and return the wish of Peace onto you and yours!
Thank you Supi! I think tennis balls were the trick as Bailey loved them! God only knows how many we purchased but it was worth every penny!
Thanks Odie!
Thank you Rick!
My deepest condo;ances. I feel your pain, as I know what it's like.. I've been there.
My deepest condonances. I feel your pain as I've been there myself.
Bailey basically 'told' us it was her time...
My vet has taught me that our beloved pets do tell us when it's time to say goodbye.
My sincerest condolences, Christopher.
Thank you Mal! My family and I know we are not alone in such cases but your words and all the others really do help!
Thank you AOW! Dogs have that way of "talking" to us humans but the last message is always the one we do not want to hear but must listen to the most.
