Petrus Romanus? Speculation on the next Pope

PETER THE ROMAN - The 112th St. Malachy prophesy states: "In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Petrus Romanus, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations; after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people".

The following two cardinals are possible contenders to succeed Pope Benedict XVI and what St. Malachy prophesied to be the last Pontiff.

Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana

",,,humanity to be authentically one family and to conceive of a new world with the creation of a world public Authority,,," -  Cardinal Peter Turkson

The Cardinal has a lot more to say on this subject (click on his name in the quote) but the line quoted above is in the last sentence of a speech given in October 2011.

Cardinal Tarcisio Pietro Evasio Bertone, who is the Cardinal Secretary of State.
Cardinal Bertone was born in Romano, Italy

Defence of Pius XIIOn 5 June 2007, at a conference announcing the release of a new biography of Pope Pius XII, Bertone defended Pius against claims of indifference toward the Jews during The Holocaust. The Cardinal condemned this accusation as a "black legend" and "an attack on good sense and on rationality", which has "become so firmly established that even to scratch it is an arduous task".[12] Although he admitted that Pius XII had been "cautious" in condemning Nazi Germany, Bertone stated that Nazi forces would have intensified its program of genocide had the Pope been more outspoken.

The last statement above is pure speculation and really, was the Holocaust not intense enough for this man or Pius for that matter? How can one justify doing next to nothing in the face of pure, unadulterated and real evil especially given the title of Vicar of Christ?

Whatever the outcome of the papal conclave is, we are in for some interesting times.

Christopher,

The names and places where there from are very interesting. I just reblogged a post on Malachy and thought you might be interested. Here it is http://catholibertarian.com/2013/03/02/2705/. But also Pope Pius XII did a great deal of underground saving of the Jewish people like giving them fake baptismal certificates. There's quite a bit coming to light, even being recognized by the Jews today, of just how much Pope Pius XII did for the Jews during the Holocaust. I'll have to do a post on this soon. God Bless.

I do not disagree on the Pius' actions as you describe but would venture that the one deemed Vicar of Christ should never have to go "underground" or say "behind the scenes" himself in actions or words in the face of unprecedented evil, there are subordinates to carry out such works.

I believe that the public face of the Vatican at the time was beyond sorely lacking in representing itself and Christians in general as a force against evil. As evidence I might point to the populace of our own country at the time (overwhelmingly Christian) in voicing disapproval of going to war with Germany.
